I chose Rihanna as my subject because she has been one of my favourite singers for many years. I admire her career, style and personal voice very much. Rihanna’s music always makes me feel joyful and carefree. I hope that her successful career will continue! Writing on this blog has been pretty nice actually. Rihanna performed in Finland for the first time on 14th 3,2008. The gig was held in Helsinki’s Hartwall-Arena and there were about 9700 listenerst there. People loved Rihanna’s voice: “Rihanna’s tone color was strong and seductive, she gets up and down quickly like a roller coaster.” Rihanna shaked her hips wildly and she was dressing revealingly. The ambience was fresh, not clammy. The audience consisted mostly of teenage girls and a little bit older girls. There were also some boys there. The gig only lasted for 65 minutes which was almost too short.
On the Beach-festival
Rihanna performed in On the Beach-festival in Helsinki’s Hietaniemi on 16th of August, 2011. Rihanna started her performance for over an hour late like a real diva. The event sold 16 000 tickets. Bad weather and rain hindered occasionally. Many people imitated the way she dresses(miniskirts, micro shorts and jungle animal -themed tops. Rihanna herself was wearing a pole shirt and mini-shorts. The audience danced and sang in the gloaming night.

How it all started:
Rihanna’s whole life changed in 2003 when her friend introduced her to Evan Rogers, an American producer, who was vacationing on the island with his Bajan-born wife. “The minute Rihanna walked into the room, it was like the other two girls didn’t exist”, he admitted after Rihanna’s girl group had auditioned for him. Rihanna flew to New York and recorded demos for a demo tape which was sent to various record labels. That’s how Rihanna met Jay-Z, the CEO and president of Def Jam Recordings, and began working with him. In 2005 she signed a six-album record with Def Jam Recordings and moved to United States. Rihanna’s first single “Pon de Replay” was released on May 24,2005 and her debut album Music of the Sun was released three months later. After a while everybody knew Rihanna’s name.
Influences and genres:
Rihanna’s earliest influence was reggae and she grew up listening to it. Her later influences include Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Beyonce and Alicia Keys.
Rihanna sings r’n'b, pop, dance and reggae.
Charity work:
In 2006 Rihanna founded a charity called The Believe Foundation. It offeres medical attention, school supplies and toys for terminally ill children. Rihanna also supports many other charities like UNICEF, Red Cross, Live Earth, Feeding America, Stand Up To Cancer and Designers Against AIDS.
